Hark the Divine Call
Unarchive #12 at PYPA, IPC Immanuel Church, Banaswadi
Be observant to your calling, as attentiveness is key to fulfilling God’s purpose. Like an observant intern who learns and grows, those who heed their divine call with diligence and faith will be promoted to greater roles in God's plan. Discerning God's voice requires cultivating a relationship with Him, listening for His gentle guidance, and testing it against scripture. Seek wise counsel, recognize the Spirit’s signs, and trust God’s timing. When we are faithful and obedient to His call, we walk in alignment with His divine purpose, leading to deeper spiritual growth and fulfillment.
Be Observant to your Calling
To be observant to your calling means to be mindful, aware, and attentive to the purpose or duty, that you believe you are meant to fulfil in life. It involves recognizing and understanding your unique role, responsibilities, and the impact you can have on the world, and then actively and conscientiously working towards fulfilling that purpose to your calling. It implies a deep sense of commitment, dedication, and alignment with what you perceive as your life's mission.
Scripture presents few interns who truly embody an observant spirit. An exemplary intern is one who, with earnest observation, willingly receives and obeys their divine calling with unwavering dedication. The ultimate example is Jesus Christ, who, in His perfect internship, shows us the path to the most profound and virtuous service.
As in Galatians 5:20, we are bestowed with the blessing of the Fruits of the Spirit- love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, it is imperative that we lead our lives that align with these divine virtues. There may be moments when we slack or become complacent, but there is a divine counsellor who unfailingly reminds us to heed the calling.
Among the notable figures in the Word of God, a few stand out as exemplars of being Observant to Their Divine Calling. Consider Elijah and Elisha, Ruth and Naomi, Moses and Joshua, and the disciples of Christ.
1. When God instructed Elijah to anoint Elisha as his successor, Elisha didn’t just accept the role but saw it as a chance to learn. Chosen to observe and be tested, Elisha's commitment was crucial for carrying on Elijah's work. While God can use anyone, Elisha first had to be prepared. He grew through diligence and a Spirit-filled heart. Instead of pursuing worldly gains, Elisha stayed close to Elijah, desiring a spiritual blessing. When asked what he wanted as a parting gift, Elisha immediately requested a double portion of Elijah's Spirit. This choice demonstrated the depth of his observance, the power of prayer, and the vigilance in recognizing his divine calling. It takes a diligent observer to recognize the true possession. -the spirit of the lord.
2. Ruth and Naomi's story highlights Ruth's remarkable dedication. Why did ruth stay back? why didn't she choose to go back like the other, it's because she kept a close watch over her husband’s family and the Lord that they served. She chose to stay back because she was vigilant to her calling, it takes a keen observer to say (ruth 1:16) as we read " But Ruth replied," Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go, I go, and where you stay, I stay. Your people will be my people and YOUR GOD MY GOD”. This demonstrates how deep her faith and commitment were
3.We all know what a great leader Moses was, along with his great leadership, like all of us he also had his share of mistakes and he lost the privilege to enter into the promise land.
Yes, it's true that Joshua was made the leader after Moses. But before he could be placed in that position, Joshua started off as an intern-he was in his training grounds. He stood out as a faithful intern. He stood vigilant to his calling, God kept on testing him, and he was checked on all points. He may have failed and made mistakes but he still stood vigilant (Deuteronomy 31:1-3) He takes a true observant intern to surpass his master and march to his calling.
4.The disciples of Jesus - The disciples of Jesus varied in their commitment to their calling. While some, like Judas Iscariot, strayed, -and not everyone was confident in building their foundation strong -it’s not too easy to build yourself in those training ground-there will be times you will drown, but if we can completely rely on the Lord and stay observant to the calling, if we can just surrender to the Lord, we will be able to walk even on the most unstable foundation.
How to be an observant Intern?
1.A Good intern is very observant and possess keen awareness.
2.A Good Intern will always seek the Lord.
3.A Good intern, will always expect for a true encounter to reach his calling.
4.A Good Intern, will stay committed.
5.A Good intern, analysis his training grounds and wields the weapon of prayer
6.A Good Intern will always be obedient to the voice of the Lord.
7.A Good Intern will always desire for the double portion of spiritual gifts over material blessings.
8.A Good intern will be ready to take on the lead of his master.
9.A Good intern will wait upon the Lord.
10.A Good intern is the one who is saved by grace and not by works.
11.A Good intern will reveal the meaning ' The Lord Saves'.
12.A Good intern will never make an excuse (a little too personal)
13.A Good intern will share the burden.
14.A Good intern will praise God at all times.
15.A Good intern will be left alone to weep.
16.A Good intern will be rejected by the world.
It’s a phrase I heard "Athmiya kariyagale kaatilum Valiyadhanu, Athmavinde Pravarthanum". We often focus on working for the Lord but forget the work needed within us. Remember, we were called and saved by grace for a divine purpose. We are not just mortals; we are set apart as sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father.
As it says in Hebrews 12-Let us fix our gaze upon the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us engage in this battle as observant interns, striving to fulfil our calling and reach the promise land. A time will come when the remnants will gather in Jerusalem, and the walls will not contain them, for the Lord Himself will be our shield of fire.
So, let us all become observant interns and remain attentive to our calling.
All the glory and honor belong to God,
May His blessings be upon us.
Amen.

The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren is a Christian guide to discovering life’s purpose and meaning through faith in God. The book emphasizes that true fulfillment comes from understanding we are created by God for His purpose, not our own. It outlines five key purposes: worshiping God, being part of a Christian community, growing spiritually, serving others, and fulfilling a mission. Warren encourages readers to live with intentionality, aligning their lives with God's plan to find purpose, peace, and a deeper connection with their Creator
